Everything ChatGPT

In this blog post we dive deep into everything ChatGPT, from its creation, usecases, founders, potential impact on the labor market, among other features.

What is ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a natural language processing algorithm based on the GPT-3 algorithms capable of performing conversional logic in a ask-response type of manner.

The ChatGPT chatbot is capable of holding normal conversations, writing code, answering questions iteratively, provide summary and translations from one language to another and admit mistakes when performed. These among other features are possible due to the massive amount of computational training which have gone into the Chatbot and general large language model.

Who made ChatGPT

The ChatGPT chatbot is the result of OpenAI’s research on natural large language models and training of such on huge amount of data available through the internet among other libraries. The chatGPT chatbot launched on November 30’th 2022 and have since been the fastest widespread technology to enter the broader public compared to similar technologies such as Airbnb, Netflix, Spotify, Facebook and Dropbox, see Figure 1.

Comparison statistics about the time to reach one million users based on the time to market. Here ChatGPT have outpaced members such as Facebook, Netflix and Airbnb
Figure 1: Statistic showing time to reach one million users according to Statista, see source: Statista.

This explosive growth rate is unprecedented as compared similar type of technologies such as Instagram. However one may argue that the type of engagement needed for Instagram is significantly different from the type of engagement that ChatGPT offers as you can easily hold conversations, translations and similarly however the content creation part is different in the sense that on Instagram one utilizes user created content as a self fulfilling way of quickly bootstrapping users while the conversations one would have with ChatGPT is personalized and hardly replicable or shareable in general.

What data have ChatGPT been trained on?

The data which ChatGPT have been trained on goes back into the year 2021 with a cutoff date undisclosed to the general public by the founding OpenAI team. The databasis behind the natural language model which ChatGPT is based on, GPT-3.5, consists of a massive amount of text data downloaded from the internet including articles, books, reviews and other type of text based data which can be researched online through the internet.

Language barriers are broken down

The content of the internet is diverse and broad with languages ranging from all places on the world. This allows ChatGPT to easily recognize individual patterns within each major language such as English, French, Spanish and Portugese. This way enables ChatGPT’s pattern recognition methodologies to easily translate between languages in a way much more efficient than similar types of translators.

The translation mechanisms which ChatGPT facilitates creates a tremendous value creation as usual translations are made from human to human contact this way of translating written material allows for freeing up human resources such that more people can be involved in the creation of humanities most refined activities such as innovation and research, creation of art and new technologies.

Exceeding user expectations

When using the ChatGPT bot it quickly exceeds user expectations as users go into the experience thinking that they will quickly run out of ideas or get bored talking to a computer. This is not the case however as users continuously experience surprisingly engaging content from talking with the natural language processing unit. Customers of the NLP chatbot ChatGPT thus experience a better than expected user experience using the designed chatbot. This ensures commitment of time resources towards the chatbot from external people as the knowledge of the ChatGPT solution becomes widespread throughout the world in general.

Increased popularity

The innovative solution have thus created a massive burst of popularity among the general public and quickly ChatGPT is on everyone’s lips. The increased traffic towards the original webpage is hard to monetize for the researchers and creators of ChatGPT. They have an interest in monetizing the internet traffic as more people are using output which they themselves have created and invested a lot of time and money into developing.

Monetization strategies for ChatGPT

Unlike regular internet traffic which is easily monetizable through the use of ads, affiliate marketing and subscriber paid content. When which monetization strategy to utilize different pros and cons exists for each choice. Lets outline some of the most common types of strategies with pros and cons. Disclaimer; the following pros and cons list have been generated by a natural language processing model and have afterwards been factchecked through a human reader.

Advertising

Advertising: One of the most common ways to monetize internet traffic is through advertising. This involves displaying ads on websites or in mobile apps, and earning revenue based on the number of clicks, impressions, or other metrics.

  • Pros: Advertising can be very lucrative, particularly for websites or apps with a large audience. It is a well-established model that is easy to implement, and there are many advertising networks and platforms that can help connect publishers with advertisers.
  • Cons: Some users may find ads intrusive or annoying, and ad-blockers can reduce revenue for publishers. Additionally, the revenue earned from advertising can be unpredictable, and can be affected by factors such as ad-blocking, changes in advertiser demand, or changes to ad platforms.

Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing involves promoting products or services on a website or social media platform, and earning a commission on sales that result from clicks or other actions taken by users.

  • Pros: Affiliate marketing can be an effective way to earn revenue without the need to create or sell products or services directly. It can also be a good fit for websites or social media accounts that focus on a particular niche or topic, as it allows for targeted promotion of relevant products or services.
  • Cons: Affiliate marketing can be highly competitive, and success may depend on factors such as the quality of the products being promoted, the size and engagement of the audience, and the strength of the competition. Additionally, some users may be skeptical of affiliate marketing and may be less likely to click on links or make purchases.

Subscription based

Subscription based: Here you monetize internet traffic through subscriptions. This involves charging users a recurring fee in exchange for access to content or services.

  • Pros: Subscription-based models can provide a stable and predictable source of revenue, and can be particularly effective for content or services that have a loyal following. They can also be used to build long-term relationships with customers, as subscribers are more likely to be engaged and invested in the content or service.
  • Cons: Subscription-based models can be challenging to implement, particularly for new or unproven products or services. They may also require ongoing investment in content or features to keep subscribers engaged.

Overall, the choice of monetization strategy will depend on a variety of factors, including the nature of the website or app, the audience, and the goals of the publisher. It’s important to consider the pros and cons of each strategy before deciding which one to pursue.

The difficulties in choosing the right monetization strategy is therefore not as straight forward as one would envisage. This being said it seems that the OpenAI team have decided upon the subscription based monetization suggestion with the invention of the ChatGPT+ subscription providing end-users with end access and prioritized turbo use of the ChatGPT bot even during peak hours which are specifically demanding timeslots where users could expect reduced answer time for the ChatGPT to answer.

Keeping the innovation kernel burning

At ChatGPT, the company is continuously working to improve their algorithm and update their systems to keep up with the latest advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) methodologies. They are also working on expanding their knowledge base by adding more information to their database, which will only lead to better and more accurate responses to every user’s inquiries.

How much money does ChatGPT make

The valuation of ChatGPT is difficult to manifest exactly as currently the increased traffic of the webpages and surrounding talk in society is hard to accurately predict or set a monetary value upon. The valuation of OpenAI is similarly difficult to accurately predict as the company currently has only produced openly available software solutions thus customers and users of the software don’t pay for their utilization straight away meaning that they the conceptual value of the company is designed based on whoever want to pay more for the service.

lacking revenue streams

Currently ChatGPT therefore doesn’t create any revenue meaning that the entire investment space is utilized for supporting the research and development of ChatGPT and thus no revenue comes out for the initial investment as of yet.

Valuation of the company: OpenAI

For valuation purposes the recent investments of Microsoft into ChatGPT, although no exact amounts have been disclosed to the public, the order of magnitude for the ChatGPT investment runs up into billions of dollars, meaning that the valuation of OpenAI compares to that of recent small-mid cap stocks listed on the NYSE.

This means that although no revenue is currently generated by ChatGPT and no exact disclosure have been made by Microsoft into the exact amount of money being poured into ChatGPT and especially the backend of ChatGPT for further development of NLP-models.

Thus with an expected valuation bigger than a billion dollars, this speaks for itself meaning that certainly the work performed by OpenAI is valuable and especially the ChatGPT model is valuable to the general public although no general value have been specifically set on the model.

Projected revenue for the year 2023

With the advent of the subscription based service the projected revenue forecast of the ChatGPT model is calculated through use of projected future discounted cash flow models. The current revenue forecast for the year 2023 is expected to be 1 billion according to OpenAI themselves, source While OpenAI expect the revenues for 2024 to be significantly larger in the order of multiple billions.

1. Generating human-like text for chatbots and virtual assistants.

One of the many advantages and wonders about general processing languages is its ability to generate text that is easily understandable and available straight from the get-go.

In recent years, the advent of natural language processing units have made it possible to easily generate adversarial text which mimics easily the human language. Within this space, ChatGPT readily excels with the below text as an example.

Generating human-like text can be achieved through the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and language models.

  1. Firstly, you need a large corpus of text data, this can be obtained from websites, books, or any other sources.
  2. Pre-process the data to remove any irrelevant information, such as numbers, punctuation, and special characters.
  3. Train a language model, such as GPT-3, on the pre-processed data to learn the patterns and structure of the language.
  4. Use the trained language model to generate new text by providing a prompt or seed text and letting the model complete the sentence or generate an entire paragraph.
  5. To increase the human-like aspect, you can fine-tune the model on specific topics or genres to make the generated text more relevant and personalized.

It’s important to note that while these models have advanced significantly in recent years, perfect human-like text generation is still a challenging task, and the generated text may still contain errors and inconsistencies.

As we can see it creates perfectly sensible English sentences explaining in detail the subject at hand. This type of informational content is perfect when wanting an informative assistant capable of answering questions from superiors without fearing for their employment or similar fears.

2. Answering questions and providing information on a wide range of topics.

One of the many benefits of new technology especially the type which ChatGPT is, is that it makes answering simple questions easier to the general public. This allows users to easily acquire information about a range of topics not as easily available as previously.

Earthquakes

As an example try and check out the following question: What is causing earthquakes?

Earthquakes are caused by the release of pent up energy in the Earth’s crust, usually from the movement of tectonic plates. This movement can occur along fault lines, and the energy can be released suddenly, resulting in seismic waves and ground shaking. Other factors that can cause earthquakes include volcanic activity, the collapse of underground mines, and the use of underground explosions.

The answer is entirely generated by the chatbot and allows users a brief and quick overview over the main mechanisms driving the occurrence of earthquakes without going into to much detail.

Tsunamis

This allows for the diffusion of knowledge throughout the system allowing users with easily readily available knowledge at their fingertips. Lets try another important topic and see how it reacts. This prompt is a continuation of the previous question: And what is causing Tsunamis?

Related read: Tsunamis the what, when and where, Earthquakes top 10 misconceptions

Tsunamis are caused by large underwater earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and underwater landslides. The sudden displacement of water creates large ocean waves that travel across the ocean and can cause significant damage when they reach the coast. The most destructive tsunamis are usually caused by large earthquakes that occur near or under the ocean floor.

As you can see, it is possible to get reliable information from the responses of ChatGPT however the reader should be careful taking advice from a chatbot. As always, stay critical of information you read on the internet and be wary when utilizing AI generated answers as these may contain wrong and inaccurate answers.

3. Generating creative writing, such as poetry, fiction, and song lyrics.

One of the things which amazes me following these new natural language models is the ability of the model to accurately develop beautiful poems, songs and fiction texts which are easily understandable and coherent.

This feature of poem and song generation is a powerful tool for singer/songwriters which will enable previously unknown artists to quickly develop and try out AI generated text albums. As an example of a poem, check out the poem about birds, spring and flowers which I asked ChatGPT to generate.

Birds sing a sweet melody,
Their songs fill the air with glee.
As flowers bloom and sway in the breeze,
Spring has arrived, bringing new life with ease.

Petals of pink, purple, and gold,
Dance in the wind, stories untold.
With the sun shining bright and bold,
Nature awakes, breaking from the cold.

The world is a symphony of sounds,
As nature awakes from its slumber bound.
A chorus of birds, a symphony of blooms,
Spring has arrived, bringing new life to the room.

So let us cherish this moment so fair,
As the world comes alive, beyond compare.
With birds singing and flowers in bloom,
Spring has arrived, in all its splendor, to resume.

The poem is well written, structured correctly and allows the user to easily relate to the above context. It is marvelous how skilled the ChatGPT AI is when considering the development of previously unheard of content such as poems and songs.

4. Generating summaries, reports, and other written documents.

Another great methodology to use the language model of ChatGPT is making the summaries of complex histories such as the political landscape of the united states of America.

Here I have prompted the ChatGPT AI with the following prompt: Can you generate a summary of 2021 in terms of political changes in U.S.A. The following answer easily summaries some of the major political implications which the deciding parties have agreed upon.

Sure, here is a summary of the major political changes in the USA in 2021:

  1. Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021. Biden took office after defeating incumbent President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
  2. The COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact the country, with the Biden Administration taking an active role in addressing the crisis through measures such as vaccine distribution and economic relief efforts.
  3. The U.S. Capitol was stormed by supporters of Donald Trump on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to disrupt the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. This resulted in a historic second impeachment of Trump by the House of Representatives, followed by his subsequent acquittal in the Senate.
  4. The Biden Administration began implementing its policy agenda, including a focus on addressing issues related to racial justice and equity, climate change, and the economy. This included measures such as the American Jobs Plan, a proposed $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs package.
  5. The Supreme Court ruled on several high-profile cases in 2021, including decisions related to LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, and religious liberty.

These political changes had significant impacts on the country, both in the short-term and the long-term, and set the stage for continued political and policy debates in the coming years.

This is one complex summary for a relatively short period of politics filled with quite a substantial amount of noise. Thus ability to quickly list and write a comprehensive list of the major events is quite a remarkable treat for a language model and one which should and could be used to summaries different types of information within a given context.

5. Translating text from one language to another.

One of the many difficulties when trying to understand languages and their varieties is the grammatical nuances that separates them. The grammar for languages differing in fundamental language tree stems can be substantially different, consider languages such as Spanish and English, or Mandarin and English. These differences have caused difficulties for people trying to develop translation models of the most spoken languages.

However with the advances of the natural language processing language we can now ask the ChatGPT AI to first generate some text about Denmark in English and then translate the same text to Danish with the following result

Denmark is one of the most developed countries in the world, known for its high standard of quality of life and well-being. The population is friendly and open, and the country has a strong tradition of protecting rights and freedoms. Denmark is also a pioneer in green energy and sustainable development, and has a well-functioning welfare system that ensures all citizens have access to healthcare, education, and social security. Surrounded by beautiful fjords and lovely nature, Denmark is a wonderful place to live and visit.

As we can see the paragraph generated contain easily understandable English sentences about Denmark and when translated also contains information about Denmark in understandable danish.

6. Generating code and scripts for a variety of programming languages.

One of the best accompanying features with ChatGPT is its ability to quickly and reasonably well consider advanced features such as scripting. The AI is able to generate usable scripting code from scratch and enable other users to easily utilize scripts and programs not necessarily able to beforehand. The following example shows code generated from the AI specifically focused on utilizing the API from ChatGPT.

import openai

# Set up the API key
openai.api_key = "YOUR_API_KEY"

# Function to generate text responses
def generate_text(prompt):
    completions = openai.Completion.create(
        engine="text-davinci-002",
        prompt=prompt,
        max_tokens=1024,
        n=1,
        stop=None,
        temperature=0.5,
    )

    message = completions.choices[0].text
    return message

# Continuously prompt the user for input and generate responses
while True:
    user_input = input("You: ")
    response = generate_text(user_input)
    print("ChatGPT: ", response)

As we can see, the AI is able to generate useable and shareable script code in python. This allows users to easily calculate and provide scripts which are used for accessing previously unaccessible pieces of the internet for people with limited knowledge of programming.

7. Generating product descriptions, reviews, and other marketing content.

A tedious task which is boring and uninteresting is the labeling of products with descriptions, reviews and similar types of work. This tedious job is something which humans have wanted to automate and now they can! With ChatGPT it is possible to generate descriptions and reviews of different marketing items.

This type of work can include regular items such as food cans or reviewing popular films. The films can include popularized movies such as Quentin Tarantino’s films. Here below is a review of the hateful eight.

“The Hateful Eight” is a classic Quentin Tarantino film that showcases the director’s signature style of non-linear storytelling and intense violence. Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, the film follows a group of travelers who are stranded in a haberdashery during a blizzard. The all-star cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, delivers powerful performances that bring the film’s strong dialogue to life. The cinematography, especially the breathtaking winter landscapes, adds to the film’s raw and gritty atmosphere. Overall, “The Hateful Eight” is a masterful film that showcases Tarantino’s talent as a filmmaker, and is a must-watch for fans of Westerns and his style of filmmaking. However, some viewers may be put off by the film’s excessive violence and slow pace.

As you can see the ChatGPT AI is able to successfully develop a movie review description in accordance with the scenic picture of the Hateful Eight, this includes the usage of signature Quentin Tarantino references, the cast and critical thinking on the pace and excessive violence experienced in the movie.

8. Generating captions and subtitles for videos and images.

A fun option which can also be tedious is a description of captions and similar. Below is an example with generated caption to an AI generated picture. The below contents show a given list of different examples of image captions generated by requesting text description of a skiing picture.

  • “Taking in the breathtaking views on this mountain adventure 🏔️🌞”
  • “Soaking up the sun and carving up the slopes 🎿️❄️”
  • “Feeling free and alive on the slopes 🎿️❄️”
  • “Finding joy in the journey, one ski turn at a time 💫”
  • “Sunny skies, fresh powder, and endless fun 🌞❄️😃”
  • “Riding the mountain like a boss 💪🏔️”
  • “Life is better on the slopes 🎿️💕”
  • “Chasing thrills and making memories with every run 🎿️🌞”
  • “Bringing the sunshine with me on this snowy mountain excursion 🌞❄️”
  • “Life is an endless winter wonderland 🌨️❄️🎿️”
  • “Making the most of every sunny day on the mountain 💛🏔️🌞”

As can be seen the AI is capable of generating text and icons ready to post directly on social media utilizing differences in the expression able text angling the meaning of the post. This usage can be highly desirable considering the widespread usage of social media such as Instagram, Facebook and similar.

9. Generating responses for social media and email marketing campaigns.

The next to final usage on our ChatGPT top 10 usages is the generating responses to social marketing campaigns.

Social media campaigns are utilized in a variety of fashions including but not limited to, marketing of products, services, software, beauty products and information sharing. End-users are bombarded with information causing them to be insensitive towards bad quality content, the need for high quality well-written responses to campaigns are therefore needed.

This is a place where ChatGPT shines. It is available to quickly generate a response to a social media marketing campaign, for this example even without specifying the exact campaign.

“Wow, this campaign is fantastic! The graphics are eye-catching and the messaging is clear and compelling. I can tell that a lot of thought and effort went into making this campaign a success. Keep up the great work, I can’t wait to see what’s next! #lovethecampaign #excitedforwhat’snext”

10. Generating dialogue for video games and interactive storytelling.

Finally as a last example of the many useful use cases on our ChatGPT top 10 usages is videogame dialogue. Videogames are a huge industry with amount of users increasing worldwide.

In addition, the amount of users getting access to the internet is exponentially increasing until following the continual development of the third-world countries.

Indeed the amount and size of the video game industry is thus rising fast, putting pressure on developers to write engaging dialogue for characters. Writing dialogue is a tedious often tiring process but with ChatGPT, it is possible to quickly generate engaging dialogue between key characters. For the following paragraph, I have asked ChatGPT to deliver a dialogue speech between two characters from one of the most successful games to date, the Half-Life 2 pc game that took the world by storm.

Gordon Freeman: “I’ve got to find a way to get out of here.”

Barney Calhoun: “Gordon, over here! I can help you find a way out, but we’ve got to be quick. The Combine are everywhere.”

Gordon Freeman: “What’s the Combine?”

Barney Calhoun: “They’re an interdimensional empire that’s taken over Earth. They’re relentless and well-armed, so we’ve got to be careful.”

Gordon Freeman: “I’ll do whatever it takes to stop them.”

Barney Calhoun: “Good. I’ve got a rebel contact who can help us, but we’ve got to get to him first. Let’s go.

ChatGPT – Top 10 misconceptions

The Chatbot, “ChatGPT”, (Generative Pre-Training translator), has recently been the new kid on the block raking in millions of new users breaking records for first to market.

In this blogpost we discover 10 common misconceptions about ChatGPT and trust me there is more to this chatbot than meets the eye.

OpenAI logo. Original company who created the chatGPT chatbot
Figure 1: OpenAI’s logo

1. Using ChatGPT to replace software developers

People fear new and revolutionizing technology. They are afraid to lose their job and therefore be unavailable to financially support themselves.

A tale of horses and automobiles

This was the case with the introduction of tractors suppressing the use of horses. Historically speaking, horses was used to plow fields, drag harvested crops and equipment across the farmland. They were indispensable on farms and used heavily in cities.

In cities horses was used for everything from driving carriages with people, postal services, public transportation and transportation of goods and services. This required a stable amount of draft horses that needed horseshoes, saddles and brushes as maintenance for the draft horse stables.

With the advent of the automobile all jobs in relation to the horses got replaced by automobiles. This replaced horseshoe makers, saddle makers and similar jobs with mechanics and factory workers.

New horizons and beginnings

Consequently, the innovation of the automobile replaced previous job-types and was initially met with extraordinary resistance and fear from the people. For fear that, the unknown new ‘dangerous’ technology was generally a big problem for the general public which reacted with civil unrest and demonstrations.

Now one may wonder, is that a better way of life for the general public? As it turns out people are smart and adaptable. They are able to adapt to their surroundings. The horseshoe makers changed their professions in accordance with the advent of automobiles. Consequently new jobs are created ensuring that people innovate and so the cycle continues.

ChatGPT – Replacing modern day horses?

In this case, I believe that ChatGPT won’t revolutionize standard software architecture jobs. The chatbot cannot fully abstract to the level which humans are capable of.

Necessity is the mother of invention and software architects/programmers will either specialize or new jobs will be created which they adapt for. The innovative capabilities of ChatGPT will compete against software programmers and possibly free up resources to be allocated towards more challenging tasks.

2. ChatGPT will conquer the world

The invention of new technology embraces the welcome feeling of new and untested territory which brings forth emotions of excitement and joy. However also feelings of discomfort and uncertainty, moral dilemmas and ethical considerations are keystones of the modern innovation space.

Specifically the feelings of fear with the unknown must be dealt with effectively. The spurious thoughts spawn from fear. These include feeling of disempowerment, and include the fear that ChatGPT will conquer the world.

Echo-champers

The irrationality of such thoughts are difficult to comprehend for the isolated individual. Especially if that person surrounds itself will people of the same belief systems. Such scenarios exist causing so-called echo champers. Echo-champers are ideological abstractions which encourage radicalization of ideas. This enables users to develop own beliefs of impeding doom.

AI-generated image of an abstract cheese bell shaped echo-champer
Figure 1: A ‘cheese’ bell echo chamber sketch of a person -AI generated

The lack of evidence is neglected and becomes evident when attacked by critical thinkers from the outside. To clarify, ChatGPT will not conquer the world. Neither will it enable terrorists to try and capture key infrastructure from scripts developed by ChatGPT.

3. ChatGPT will replace google

One of the ChatGPT – top 10 misconceptions, is that it will replace google as we know it. Google is the well-known search-engine answering all questions which people might wonder. It is basically an indexed table of the internet where users can post and question all of the naturally happening world.

On the other hand, we have ‘ChatGPT’ which according to the creators themselves (OpenAI source: https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/) is an optimized conversational language model. The ChatGPT language model is based on reinforcement learning models, supervised learning and specifically Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF-models). The chatbot is therefore able to make informed conversations with its users remembering what the conversation is about and admitting mistakes underway.

ChatGPT-diagram about the reinforcement learning methodologies utilized
Figure 2: ChatGPT diagram over the structure of the reinforcement learning models.

A profoundly different methodology than the index based search engine which is google. Unlike google, ChatGPT generates answers utilizing its AI engine. However these answers credibility is up to the individual users interpretation while general credibility for source material indexed from the users of google searches is based on source material written by other humans.

4. ChatGPT will replace writers

Another of the ChatGPT top 10 misconceptions is that ChatGPT will replace writers. This is a misconception which has partial credibility. Specifically ChatGPT is a chatbot that can generate paragraphs of text. This text is readable by humans and is somewhat easily comprehendible.

With this being said, ChatGPT might actually replace human writers with written blog material, news agencies or similar types of material. This is particularly different than writers of novels, books or poems which are profoundly different abstraction levels than commonly used material.

Consequently, ChatGPT will most likely not replace common writers or writers as we know it to exist. However it can likely make people writing for news agencies and similar unable to accurately make jobs.

5. ChatGPT will develop new languages

One common misconception about ChatGPT is that it will create new languages. In the world today there exist more than 5000 languages worldwide, not counting professional programming language syntaxes such as C++, Fortran and Python.

Creation of new languages

To make a new language you would have to have thousands of people using it on a day to day basis with its own history, culture and verbal/non-verbal communications.

Therefore it is not possible to correctly characterize the new chatbot ChatGPT, as a new language, nor does it actually invent new languages by replying to prompts through an interactive fashion.

The conversational logic behind ChatGPT might trick the users into thinking that it is a sentient being, thus passing the Turing test, however this is not yet the case and certainly the conversations you are having with the chatbot is based on trained neural networks, not actual sentient thinking.

6. ChatGPT will automate life as we know it

In our top 10 misconceptions about ChatGPT, this is one of the more spacey statements. To start off let’s characterize what the capabilities of ChatGPT is.

ChatGPT is a conversational reinforced learning network, answering to prompts received by human consoles. Similar to modern pc’s it can calculate and respond to a given set of instructions supplied via a prompt.

Similarities to a regular pc

The deviations from a regular pc, comes both from the fact that it is software algorithmically driven and that it therefore fundamentally runs on similar binary logic as a regular computer.

Secondly and more importantly, ChatGPT is unable to communicate with existing infrastructure and hardware meaning that it is unable to actually take control over old machinery or similar.

It can thus easily respond to prompt and provide answers and corrections to questions. However when trying to solve real world problems such as supplying hungry people with food and clean drinking water, it falls sort and will be unable to plan and perform changes in the real world for people.

7. ChatGPT will change everything

The changes which will be incurred from the world wide usage of ChatGPT lies more when trying to answer questions which we already have answers for and need people to execute.

In these regards ChatGPT might very well change common work principles and routines for people working with software and it-infrastructure.

Old fashioned ways

However when it comes to complex labor tasks such as; harvesting of crops, processing of clean drinking water and planning for road constructions, the old fashioned ways with project leaders and workers will remain unchanged going forward.

There will constantly be a need for people with a plethora of skills solving complicated pieces of work all within the same puzzle. This type of work with a mixture of manual and knowledge driven work, will be key when trying to fundamentally change the way of lives of regular people.

ChatGPT will change a small fraction of these tasks and most likely create new jobs along with it.

8. ChatGPT will replace humans

This misconception might actually have some grain of truth within itself. It is likely that ChatGPT will replace human interactions on a certain level come it to be scripting, coding or answering regular questions as a chatbot in public service infrastructure.

Boring jobs and uninteresting work

The replacement of boring, unchallenging, uninteresting work of humans by machines is a constant when innovating. It is important for people to feee up more of their time to do stuff which they want to do, such as art, music and creation of innovations.

However to think that ChatGPT will actually replace humans as we know it and make us obsolete in the workforce is fear mongering at best.

9. ChatGPT will replace doctors

Second to last on our top 10 misconceptions about ChatGPT is one of the more controversial topics, medicine and particularly doctors.

Big tech response replacing doctors

Recently, big tech giants like google, Microsoft and similar have invested quite a substantial amount of money into developing an artificial doctor capable of accurately provide diagnosis of sick people.

Their job is trying to effectively remove the old traditions of booking appointments with doctors to get diagnosis but rather take tests and answer questions by a chatbot.

Conversations as therapy

This last part respond well with ChatGPT however it won’t replace the regular doctors as we know it. The conversational chatbot ChatGPT is unable to read and process tests delivered to a computer and although the response to answers from patients might have a therapeutic effect it won’t replace hardcore blood samples.

ChatGPT is built with responsive language models and conversations in mind, not difficult deep-learning neural network tasks such as eliminating possible diseases.

10. ChatGPT will posses emotions

Last on our top 10 misconceptions about ChatGPT is that it will poses emotions. on a more abstract level, emotions are quite subjective feelings arising from a complex network of neurological connections whose interactions aren’t fully understood.

Emotions are defined as human characteristics best expressed when subjected to extreme circumstances. They are not possible by definition to invent into machinery and especially not ChatGPT, as feelings are universally inherent in human nature and thus cannot be prompted by a mere chatbot.

Bonus

Now as a final bonus for this blogpost consider the paragraph below which have been entirely generated by an AI talking about ChatGPT misconceptions. In my personal view, not an entirely bad addition to our humanly written content above, but what do you think? Will ChatGPT be the end to human life as we know it?

Misconception:

ChatGPT can entirely simulate a human-to-human conversation, replacing actual humans in the chat lounge. Despite its AI-backed capabilities, ChatGPT does not yet possess the capacity to completely replicate the nuances of a person-to-person conversation due to its programming.
